SPARC Program Details
Catalyzing world-class research collaborations between premier Indian institutions and globally renowned universities to solve national and international challenges.
About the SPARC Scheme
SPARC: The Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) aims to strengthen the research ecosystem of India's Higher Educational Institutions by promoting academic and research collaborations between Indian Institutions and leading global institutions from across 28+ partner countries to jointly address problems of national and international significance.
The scheme facilitates productive academic cooperation in high-impact domains including joint research projects, international faculty visits, scholar mobility, and joint degree frameworks by supporting key components that accelerate scientific breakthroughs and sustainable technological solutions.
Core Strategic Pillars
Key Components of the Scheme
Structured intervention mechanisms providing financial, infrastructural, and mobility support for collaborative academic research.
International Faculty Visits
Visits and long-term stay of leading international faculty and researchers at Indian institutions for joint teaching, specialized seminars, and collaborative laboratory research.
Student Exchange & Laboratory Training
Visits by Indian doctoral and postgraduate scholars to premier international laboratories for advanced training, high-end instrumentation experimentation, and knowledge transfer.
Joint Course & Technology Development
Joint development of niche curricular courses, world-class monographs, translatable patents, demonstrable prototype technologies, and action-oriented translational outcomes.
Bilateral Cooperation & Workshops
Strengthening of bilateral institutional partnerships through high-level research symposia, bilateral workshops, and stakeholder engagement held across Indian host institutes.
Global Visibility & Annual Conclaves
High-impact publication dissemination, patent disclosures, and international visibility achieved through annual research conclaves, thematic summits, and showcase exhibitions.
Advanced Skill & Human Capital Development
Comprehensive scientific capacity building and specialized skill development of young researchers, engineers, and faculty across emerging multidisciplinary frontiers.
Global Context & Strategic Multilateral Priorities
During India's G20 Presidency, "Strengthening research and promoting innovation through richer collaboration in education and training" was identified as a paramount priority area by the Education Working Group. The G20 Leaders' Declaration reaffirmed the international commitment to promote open, equitable, and secure scientific collaboration and encourage cross-border mobility of students, scholars, researchers, and scientists.
Digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, semiconductor technologies, and advanced materials, alongside sustainability, clean energy, and green transitions, are strategically prioritized in bilateral deliberations. These domains require synergistic international cooperation to build resilient, sustainable, and inclusive global solutions.
